Terms of Use

The ground rules for using Sydney Beach Challenge.

DRAFT: this page is placeholder text awaiting review and sign-off by the Sydney Beach Challenge owner. It is not yet final legal wording.

1. Using the app

By creating an account you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. You must be 16 or older, or have a parent or guardian's permission to use the app.

2. Your safety is your responsibility

The challenge is for fun. Swimming is never required to count a beach. Beach information, patrol status and access notes are a guide only and may be out of date. Always follow lifeguard and council instructions, check conditions on Beachsafe and read our safety guide. Never take risks to meet a challenge deadline.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for injury, loss or damage arising from visiting any beach listed in the app.

3. Fair play

Only check in to beaches you have actually visited. We may remove check-ins, reset progress or suspend accounts that misuse the challenge or the leaderboard.

4. Your content

  • You keep ownership of photos and notes you upload, and give us permission to display them within the app.
  • Only upload content you have the right to share.
  • Don't upload identifiable images of other people without their consent, or of children without a parent or guardian's consent.
  • No offensive, unlawful or misleading content. We may remove content at our discretion.

5. Respect the places you visit

Follow local rules, stay on marked tracks, respect wildlife, take your rubbish home and respect sites of cultural significance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

6. Changes and availability

We may change the app, the challenges or these terms at any time. The service is provided as-is and may sometimes be unavailable.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
